Scholarship Opportunities
Eight players from the 2008/2009 U of A Ringette Team were awarded a total of $25,000 in Ringette Scholarships from sources noted below. These eight young women demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and excellence in ringette, as well as making significant contributions to various community service programs. The U of A Ringette Team places a strong emphasis on academic achievement and, as such, a variety of steps are taken to assist players in achieving strong academic performance. During the 2008/2009 season, a total of six Academic All Canadians (GPA 3.2 or higher) were members of the U of A Ringette Team. The combined academic average of the eight 2008/2009 scholarship recipients referred to above was an astonishing GPA of 3.5 No longer does ringette have to stop after high school. University of Alberta Ringette offers young women a chance to continue playing at a competitive level with opportunities at an extensive array of post-secondary ringette scholarships. AGNES JACKS SCHOLARSHIPThe Agnes Jacks Scholarships are named in honour of Mrs. Agnes Jacks who, following the untimely passing of her husband Mr. Sam Jacks (ringette’s founder), picked up the gauntlet and became a dedicated and tireless promoter of the sport. Mrs. Jacks was a well known and well loved figure in the ringette community and over the years became known across This program provides a number of $1,000 scholarships toward post-secondary education for ringette players, coaches and officials who demonstrate a strong commitment to the sport of ringette. The number of scholarships offered each year is determined by Ringette BOWVIEW RINGETTE SCHOLARSHIPThe Spirit of Ringette Scholarship is designed to encourage post secondary students to continue playing competitive ringette after the completion of high school. To be eligible for this scholarship, ringette players must be registered at a post-secondary institution in CARA BROWN SCHOLARSHIPThe Cara Brown Scholarship, which recognizes and rewards combined performance in ringette and scholastics, is awarded to registered ringette players who are actively playing ringette at the elite level, who are entering a Canadian university on a full-time basis for the first time, and who combine academic excellence with a strong commitment to the sport of ringette. Two annual scholarships of $750 each are provided. CAROL ANNE LETHEREN LEADERSHIP & SPORT SCHOLARSHIPThe Carol Anne Letheren Leadership and Sport Scholarship is a national, three-year, $1,500 per year, university scholarship awarded to one outstanding female high school graduate. FRIENDS OF RINGETTE SCHOLARSHIPS The Friends of Ringette Society scholarship program supports and encourages excellence in academics and ringette by post secondary student athletes who are members of competitive post secondary ringette teams, such as the U of A Ringette Team, in GAUDREAU FAMILY SCHOLARSHIPThe Gaudreau Family Scholarship is designed to encourage athletes to maintain their involvement in ringette while pursuing post-secondary studies in LETHBRIDGE RINGETTE SCHOLARSHIPThe Lethbridge Ringette Association Scholarship provides assistance towards the cost of post-secondary education for ringette players who have demonstrated strong academic performance and a commitment to the sport of ringette through active participation. One annual scholarship of $500 is available. RINGETTE ALBERTA SCHOLARSHIPSRingette Alberta Scholarships are for post-secondary ringette players who have demonstrated strong academic performance and a commitment to the sport of ringette through active participation and involvement. Five scholarships of $1,000 are awarded annually. SHERWOOD PARK RINGETTE SCHOLARSHIPThe Sherwood Park Ringette Association Scholarship is designed to encourage students to continue playing ringette after the completion of high school, while registered in post-secondary education in STACEY LEVITT WOMAN & SPORT SCHOLARSHIPThe Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity (CAAWS) invites applications from young women, girls’ teams and/or qualified sport organizations for this $2,500 scholarship which is shared by five recipients.
